Electrical Panel Upgrades & Replacements in the West Valley
If your panel is aging, sparking, tripping repeatedly, or showing burn marks — or if a home inspection flagged it — you need a professional replacement, not a patch. Sure Connections handles full panel upgrades from start to inspection across Goodyear, Buckeye, Surprise, Sun City, and the rest of the West Valley.
Signs Your Panel Needs to Be Replaced
Panels are designed to last 25–40 years. If your home was built before the late 1990s and the panel hasn't been replaced, it's likely at or near end of life. Common warning signs:
- Breakers that trip repeatedly without a clear cause
- Buzzing, humming, or crackling sounds from the panel
- Burn marks, scorching, or melted insulation around breakers
- Warm or hot panel cover when you touch it
- Flickering or dimming lights when appliances run
- You can't add new circuits because the panel is full
- Insurance company is asking you to replace it
- Home inspector flagged it during a sale
Panels We Replace
Three brands are notorious for failure and frequently flagged by insurance companies and home inspectors. If you have any of these, replace it — they're documented fire risks:
Federal Pacific (FPE) Stab-Lok panels. Common in homes built 1950s–1980s. The breakers fail to trip during overloads in a high percentage of cases. Insurance underwriters routinely refuse coverage on homes with FPE panels.
Zinsco / Sylvania panels. Common in West Valley homes built 1970s–1980s, including Sun City and Sun City West. Bus bars corrode and breakers fuse to the bar — meaning they may not trip even during a fault.
Challenger panels. A common 1980s panel with breakers prone to failure. Less famous than FPE or Zinsco, but the failure rate is documented.
If you're not sure what brand you have, send me a photo of the inside of your panel and I'll tell you. No charge for that.
My Process
Panel replacement is a permitted, inspected job. Here's what to expect:
Free Assessment
I come out, inspect the panel, give you an honest evaluation and a flat-rate quote.
Permit & Schedule
I pull the permit with your city and coordinate the power shutdown with APS or SRP.
Install
Replacement is typically a single day. Power is off for most of it. I'll let you know when.
Inspection
City inspector signs off. I handle the inspection, not you. Job's not done until it passes.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long will my power be off?
Most full panel swaps need 4–6 hours of power down. I'll give you an exact window before we start, and I work to keep it as short as possible.
How much does a panel upgrade cost?
Pricing varies based on panel size (100A, 150A, 200A), location, and whether your service entrance needs upgrading. I give a flat quote after the assessment so you know the full price before any work starts.
Do I need to upgrade to 200 amps?
Not always. If you're not adding major loads (EV charger, hot tub, big AC), 100A or 150A is often fine. We'll talk through what you actually need based on your house and your plans.
Do you handle the permit and inspection?
Yes. I pull the permit, coordinate with your utility company, and schedule the inspection. You don't lift a finger.
